WORLD ASPEGILLOSIS DAY 2021
El objetivo del Día Mundial de la Aspergilosis es concienciar sobre esta infección fúngica que, al igual que otras infecciones fúngicas en todo el mundo, suele estar infradiagnosticada. El diagnóstico de la aspergilosis es difícil y requiere conocimientos especializados (por ejemplo, el Centro Nacional de Aspergilosis del Reino Unido, un Centro de Excelencia de la Confederación Europea de Micología Médica), pero también se produce con frecuencia junto a enfermedades mucho más comunes como el asma, la tuberculosis o la EPOC. En ocasiones, los nódulos fúngicos se confunden con tumores pulmonares.

Serious fungal infections such as invasive aspergillosis can be difficult to diagnose due to often non-specific features (fever, cough, weight loss, rash, raised CRP, increased oxygen requirement) and low awareness of fungal infections. Many regions around the world have limited access to a mycology lab, and turnaround times can be long for traditional tests such as fungal cultures. This can lead to delays in treatment that cost lives.
